As a newcomer to the game of golf, I remember that the question of what to wear was strange. Very soon we found out that our golf club had certain rules we had to follow, like the rule that men have to wear shirts with a collar, women were allowed shirts without collars.

Blue jeans are not allowed, but the stupid looking and typical golf pants are. These local rules might be more relaxed at the club where you are playing - or even stricter, e.g. telling you what you can wear at the club-house.

If you are not sure, then show up in normal clothes - just to visit - and see what others are wearing before you are embarrassed by one of the golf pros who approaches you to tell you that your clothes are not accepted on their driving range.
