January

January ...in Germany - Christmas is over, all the nice presents are stowed away on the shelves, the winter does not dare to show its face and it is gray instead of white. Endlessly gray! I want to get in the mood by playing a round of golf with frostbitten fingers. The course is closed. It is not that I do not have anything to do; it is just that I do not get around to it. The blues of the self-employed.

14 days Last-minute tickets to Turkey. Work and playing golf in the sunshine. The joys of being self-employed!!!

Within walking distance from the hotel there are 3 golf courses, one with 2x18 holes, the other with 27. On one I am not allowed since I only have handicap 36, but there are still enough to choose from. The first time on the course I play with a kind, older Turkish gentleman who holds back any comments he may have about my game. He plays a wonderful game of golf - every stroke is consistent and high. No more than 130 meters. But constant.

A sure, easy and enjoyable handicap 18. That is how I want to play. So easy

A few days and many, many strokes later I am at another golf course. It is relatively short and has only straight holes with wide fairways. Something incredible happens: The course is too easy for me!!! I have only handicap 36 and is not able to play like my Turkish partner the other day. I reach for the club that causes me the most trouble at the moment (5 wood) and walk onto the yellow tee-offs. The next three holes I do not count. Then it is working, and I am able to achieve as many points as I get with free selection of club and from the ladies tee-off.

That golf can be a lot of fun I have known for a long time already.

That it can also leave you completely satisfied I have just found out.
